This “how to draw a crown” tutorial will teach you a quick technique to draw this beautiful head accessory. Your fashion illustrations will become flirty and royal looking in just a few easy to follow steps. Enjoy!

Step 1: Find the right proportions
The first thing you need to do is to find the right dimensions of the crown. Mark with a square how big you want the crown to be and remember to cover the uppermost part of the head as shown in the example illustration.

Step 2: Curve it
Curve gently the bottom line and double it to form the board that later will be encrusted with precious stones. Curve the upper corners of the square and draw two little circles in the top center part of the crown base. Erase the hair when it’s unneeded.

Step 3: Arches
Draw three half-arches that are getting thinner in their upper end. The arches should be at equal distances from one another.
To make the half arches similar to each other make sure you have a middle line that will guide you where you start to curve the arches.

Step 4: Fleur-de-lis and cross
Draw the details of the crown. A cross over the two little circles. The cross will look great if you draw it with arms narrowing towards the center and flat ends. Draw a fleur-de-lis (a stylized lily) at the bottom part of the arches all over the edge of the crown. The stages of drawing the flowers are shown step by step. Notice that the details right over the arches are bigger than the rest.

Step 5: Fill it!
Draw the velvet infill of the crown. Make enough folds since you want it to look soft and made of cloth.

Step 6: Draw the precious stones
Most of the crown is finished and it’s time to add the encrusted precious stones to it. Choose sizes, colors, and forms of your liking and make this royal accessory shine!

Try drawing different versions of the crown depending on your fashion designs and see how much the impression of your sketch changes. Play with the other accessories tutorials
Happy drawing!
