New Year 2020 Fashion Illustration

This Illustration was made for the cover picture of the 17th fashion illustration contest hosted by I Draw Fashion. The contestants are asked to create a mini collection of 3 coherent looks. Looks that the contestant and their friends would wear on a celebration event. Working on the cover I had the same challenge as all contestants and here is the breakdown of what I wanted to include in my sketch:

  • Black, Gold, and Glitter
  • Happy faces
  • The figures need to interact with each other and seem like they’re having a good time
  • Designs that are classy, but fun. Nothing too revealing.
  • Simple and clean background

As usual, I used my Clip Studio Paint app to draw this illustration. You can read more about what I love about it here. I work on a Wacom Cintique 13HD graphic tablet connected to my laptop. I recently created some new brushes to use with Clip Studio Paint and now my drawing process is even faster. I love it!
Also, I am more into sketchy illustrations in the last few months as opposed to super polished and detailed artwork that I used to create. I lay down a flats color and then build the shadows and lighting with a marker-like brush.

Normally drawing one of these models takes me just 30 minutes, but building and balancing the composition slowed me down significantly. This illustration took me around 4 hours to complete it, but I’m happy with the level of the detail and the balance in colors it has.
